American Schools of Oriental Research
The seminary is a member of the American Schools of Oriental Research, and
students are eligible to participate in the programs of that association.
Trinity students and faculty have continuing opportunities to participate
in archaeological expeditions to Israel.
Covenant Cluster Relationship
Trinity Lutheran Seminary is a partner with the Lutheran School
of Theology at Chicago and Wartburg Theological Seminary, Dubuque,
Iowa, in the Covenant Cluster of theological seminaries. This relationship
allows these three ELCA seminaries to cooperate in strategic planning
for carrying out the church's mission of theological education.
Interprofessional Courses
As part of the Theological Consortium of Greater Columbus, Trinity
is a member of the Interprofessional Commission of Ohio. The commission
provides courses on topics of interprofessional interest that are
team taught by instructors from the professional schools of The
Ohio State University and The Theological Consortium of Greater
Columbus: Allied Medicine, Education, Law, Medicine, Nursing, Social
Work, and Theology. These courses are available for students who
wish to study with students and professors from the other helping
professions. (See Course Descriptions, Interprofessional Courses.)
Lutheran Theological Center in Atlanta
Lutheran Theological Center in Atlanta (LTCA) is an extension of
the programs of the eight seminaries of the Evangelical Lutheran
Church in America (ELCA). Founded to enrich and expand the preparation
of students for parish ministry in the ELCA, LTCA provides unique
study opportunities in urban issues and diverse cultures.
Located on the campus on the Interdenominational Theological Center
(ITC), LTCA offers exceptional educational resources through cross-registration
in a vibrant ecumenical and theological complex that includes Candler
School of Theology (United Methodist), Columbia Theological Seminary
(Presbyterian) and the Interdenominational Theological Center (a
consortium of six Protestant seminaries). ITC is the largest predominantly
African-American seminary in the country.
Upon recommendation of their academic advisor, and approval of
the Academic Affairs Committee, Trinity M.Div. students may choose
to spend a semester or a full academic year - usually during their
middler year- in Atlanta as participants in the Atlanta Term Program.
The Atlanta calendar and the program opportunities offered in Atlanta
make it possible for students to coordinate their studies at Trinity
with their work in Atlanta so as to lose no time in their progress
toward graduation. For further details contact the Academic Dean.
International Study
Trinity students are encouraged to consider taking a term or a year
of their studies at seminaries in other countries. Exchange opportunities
are in place for students to do academic work in Tanzania at Makumira
University College of Tumaini University, in Argentenia at the Instituto
Superior Evangelico de Estudios Teologicos (ISEDET), in Hong Kong
at the Lutheran Theological Seminary, and in Bratislava, Slovakia
at the Institute of Theological Studies at Comenius University.
Other settings can be arranged. For further information, contact
the Academic Dean.
Theological Consortium of Greater Columbus
The seminary is a member, with the Methodist Theological School
in Ohio and the Pontifical College Josephinum, of the Theological
Consortium of Greater Columbus. All courses at each school are open
to qualified degree students of the other two seminaries. Students
are given credit by the school in which they are enrolled and pay
its tuition.
The Consortium manages an online joint library catalog for all
three schools, providing one of the largest theological collections
in one catalog in North America.
The Consortium has recently received a generous grant from The
Teagle Foundation that has enabled it to establish it to establish
a joint professorship in World Religions and Interfaith Dialogue.
Lutheran Center for Theology and Public Life
In cooperation with the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg,
Pennsylvania, Trinity students have the opportunity to spend a semester
at the Lutheran Center for Theology and Public Life in Washington,
D.C. Normally, students become eligible for this after their first
year of study. They are able to work in the areas of church and
government, urban studies, and ecumenical concerns. Housing at the
Washington Theological Union is arranged through Gettysburg Seminary.
University Affiliations
The seminary has long-standing associations with Wittenberg University
and Capital University. Wittenberg University houses valuable materials
dealing with the history of Lutheranism and Hamma School of Theology.
These are available to the church and the seminary. At adjoining
Capital University, seminary students are eligible to use certain
facilities and programs.
